Georgie founded the Veterinary Wound Library in April 2008 with the initial aim of helping veterinary clinicians to have the opportunity to trial the latest dressing technologies for free while creating data and evidence for others to consult through the library.

The library has developed since and now provides clinical advice through the kind cooperation of the Clinical Advisory Panel. Now in a position to provide more technical advice on wound management per-se plans are in place to move towards a site that provides a more comprehensive source for anyone wishing to find solutions and support for wound management in animals.

Who is Georgie Hollis?

Georgie trained as a podiatrist qualifying in 1997 and began her career working with pedobarography and gait analysis. Her special interest and area of expertise lay in the prevention and biomechanics of ulceration in diabetic patients. After some time researching this subject within the NHS she took up a post working with a market leading wound management company. Having spent her lifetime with animals and from a farming background she began to become interested in the application of advanced wound management techniques within the Veterinary patient. It became clear that many of the advanced dressings available for human use were not exploited for Veterinary use despite equivalent relevance. In 2006 she decided to dedicate herself to developing this field and became an independent specialist promoting modern dressings and their application to animal patients.

In order to bridge the gap between the developments in human and animal advanced wound care Georgie has spent the last 5 years dedicated soley to the veterinary profession.  Teaching and working with Vets and Nurses she presents nationally and internationally on the subject, including lectures at Bristol, Nottingham, Cambridge, Liverpool and Glasgow Veterinary Schools. Appointed secretary of the Veterinary Wound Healing Association www.vwha.net in January 2007 she is also a member of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) and an honorary member of Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair (CITER).

Presenting regularly on behalf of the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) and BSAVA Georgie's aim is simply to help the veterinary profession discover and utilise the latest applications of new and developing technologies for the benefit of their patients. She hopes that through the Veterinary Wound Library she will be able to bring new levels of confidence, knowldege and a wider evidence base that will ultimately mean better outcomes for clinicians and their patients.

At home Georgie lives with her partner Richard in a small village in Norfolk. Her farming background certainly not forgotten they are often referred to as 'Tom and Barbara' with their smallholding accounting for several Gloucester Old Spot Pigs, a flock of Clun Forest sheep, 'Miguel' the horse, Bruce the cat and variable amount of poultry.
